Jifan Zhang
Back Then, I was Young and Fresh
This section is a brief summary of my past and retired bios
I was born in Shenyang, China and my family moved to Beijing when I was 2 years old. I came to the states for high school back in 2013.
In springs of 2021 and 2019, I obtained my Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in computer science from the University of Washignton. During undergrad, I had somewhat broad academic interests, such as Computer Vision, Robotics, Functional Programming and Math & CS Problem Solving.
From 2019 to 2021, I was advised by Kevin Jamieson, working on problems in active learning and multi-armed bandits. I worked in the RSE Lab from 2017 to 2019, where I researched on multi-tasking vision model for robotics perception, with Tanner Schmidt, under supervision of Dieter Fox. In the summer of 2018, I joined the SAMPL group, where I was working on Relay, part of the TVM project, with Zachary Tatlock and Jared Roesch.

Experience
–
Research Intern at Meta, Core Data Science
My internship project (among two other projects) received an internal shoutout from Mark Zuckerburg at Meta. Independently researched on and productionized a large-scale active learning system.
–
Software Engineering Intern at Google, Search pCTR Team
Researched on improving Ad click prediction training efficiency by subselecting trillion-scale dataset.
–
Software Engineering Intern at Google, Geo 3D Reconstruction Team
Researched on and implemented multi-view texturing algorithms for Google Map’s 3D reconstructed models at scale.
–
Software Engineering Intern at Facebook, ML Data Platform Team
Prototyped distributed systems for large scale machine learning services of PyTorch data pre-processing.
